CRIcetus FORAmins Radar Detection

or CRIFORA aims is to detect and automatically evaluate field hamsters and common vole on agricultural land using UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles). In order to achieve the best possible success rate, various detection sensors are used, the quality and suitability of which are being validated as part of this innovation project.

Once branded as a pest and hunted, the European field hamster is now considered an endangered species. The modernization and intensification of agriculture (the emergence of new crops and farming methods) have led to a rapid decline in the global population, including in the Federal Republic of Germany.

In federal states such as Saxony-Anhalt, this problem is compounded by the high incidence rates of the common vole, a species that can cause severe damage to agricultural land ...

The CRIFORA project combines two of these fields of application; pest control and species protection. On the one hand the common vole needs to be detected to enable the monitoring of their population growth , on the other hand the field hamster needs to be detected to enable protection strategies.
